Dental cleanings and check ups are a part of preventative dentistry that helps to maintain good oral health. The goal is for patients to keep their natural teeth for as long as possible. Our team of hygienists provide patients with personalized oral health care that helps prevent dental issues.

A dental cleaning is a routine procedure that many patients have on a regular basis, such as 3, 4, 6 or 9 months depending on your oral health. It is important for patients of all ages to maintain proper oral health throughout all stages of life.

The goal of the cleaning is to remove any plaque, calculus (tartar) and any other debris that may be below the gum line as well as in between or on the surface of the teeth. The hygienist will use a dental instrument called a scaler or an ultrasonic scaler to complete this. Many patients also benefit from having their teeth polished which helps remove surface stain and micro debris, leaving a smooth and clean finish on your teeth. Depending on your oral health our hygienists can also apply a fluoride treatment or even sealants to help prevent decay in the grooves of your teeth.

A dental check up is also an important part of maintaining good oral health because the dentist will not only check your teeth but your overall oral health. This includes checking your jaw alignment, teeth grinding and looking for symptoms of oral cancer. Sometimes X-rays will be taken to see if there are any issues such as decay, fractures or abscesses that can not be seen with the human eye.
